About Us
Our nursery Dark Star Plants is located in a 2 acre Walled Garden near Northallerton in North Yorkshire. We specialise in plants with dark flowers & dark foliage, with a range of hardy herbaceous perennials, shrubs & climbers. We also offer a selection of annuals, biennials, hardy perennials, bulbs & herbs in contrasting colours and forms. Our plants are propagated & grown on site.
We each have over 30 years experience in the horticulture industry, & both attained City & Guilds Certificates, & National Certificate In Horticulture. Jenny also has a Diploma in Garden Design.
Our Growth
We sell to the public from the Walled Garden as well as the events listed on our calendar. Unused since the 1960's the Walled Garden is now being sympathetically restored with the help of a small team of dedicated volunteers. We are preserving features in keeping with the original layout, including the central well and path designs.
We have large areas devoted to the growth of flowers for cutting, which can be ordered in advance or purchased at our Farmers Markets, & at the nearby Roots Farm Shop. We have soft fruit & cut flowers available as 'pick your own' when in season.
We also offer restored vintage tools & other related items.

As our stock is continually changing we do not offer a plant list.
An Award-Winning Plant Nursery
We have previously gained awards at the Harrogate Flower Shows including a Gold Medal in 2011....The nursery has been featured in the following publications: Telegraph Gardening supplement, The English Garden, Country Living , The Dalesman, Down Your Way, Now & Then, The Northern Echo, and has been the venue for photo shoots & fashion shoots.
